RABENHAUPT

Every citizen of Groningen knows Bommen Berend. Far fewer people know Rabenhaupt—and that is remarkable, because Carl von Rabenhaupt was truly the hero of this story. He was the one who liberated the city from a ruthless occupier in 1672. As military commander and later mayor of the city, he made it possible for Groningen to grow into the absolute jewel of the North that it is today.

Not only a peaceful city to live in, but also a highly pleasant meeting place for thousands of people: locals, residents of the surrounding countryside, students, and tourists alike. Café de Sleutel

A restaurant and café housed in a unique building with a rich history (circa 1659!), where nothing is obligatory and everything is possible.
The small beer barrel on the corner with its key is a reminder of Café de Sleutel’s centuries-old brewing heritage. The atmosphere of times long past can still be felt today.
